Torino V Genoa Preview

Torino face their most important game of the season when they face fellow strugglers Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday evening.

The Granata are just four points clear of the bottom three, and just one point above opponents Genoa, so this match is crucial in their attempt to avoid relegation. Giampiero Ventura is likely to switch back to his trusted 4-2-4 formation, although don't be surprised if Alessio Cerci remains upfront after impressing in that role against AC Milan.

Genoa have fought against relegation for much of the season, but have finally come into some form after consecutive victories against Chievo and Pescara to bring them within touching distance of Toro.

Prediction
Torino 2-1 Genoa

  1. I can't help but think the Bianchi contract situation has had an effect on the squad. One of your leaders (and most talented players) being put through that makes it very difficult for other players to rally around. How can he be a vocal leader and try to steer players towards the support of the team over ones self, while he is being slowly removed from the club. Torino would have been better off moving him, even for a small fraction of a fee, in January. Mostly so others could have stepped into a leadership role. The team has too much quality to be fighting relegation, they should be nearer the middle of the table.

I wonder if the money saved on his contract will balance out the money lost if they drop back down to Serie B.

  2. Hi Frank,

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the blog. Your theory is certainly interesting, and I certainly agree the uncertainty regarding Bianchi's contract has not helped recent matters.

However, I am not sure how much of an effect it has had on performances - especially the last four matches where we have actually played quite well, but just haven't had any luck. I certainly think all the players are still united together, and hopefully with a bit more luck we will get the results we deserve.
