Torino v SPAL Preview

Torino will look to end 2019 on a high when they face SPAL at the Stadio Grande Torino on Saturday evening.

After the disaster in Verona, Toro will look to get back to winning ways and are boosted by the news that Andrea Belotti should be fit enough to start the game.

SPAL are currently bottom of the league and without an away win all season, so the Granata will be heavy favourites to pick up the victory.

Hellas Verona 3-3 Torino

Torino somehow let a three goal lead slip in the final twenty minutes on Sunday afternoon against Hellas Verona.

Andrea Belotti was surprisingly named on the bench, as Walter Mazzarri continued with the trident of Simone Zaza, Alex Berenguer and Simone Verdi in attack.

Toro thought they had opened the scoring when Alex Berenguer thumped home from the edge of the area. However, the ball had gone out of play just before Tomas Rincon pulled the ball back.

However, Toro took the lead ten minutes before halftime when Cristian Ansaldi fired home from a difficult angle.

The Granata then doubled their lead ten minutes after the break, as Alex Berenguer scored an excellent individual effort, albeit with the aid of a deflection.

Cristian Ansaldi then continued his sensational run of form as he volleyed home from outside the area to give Torino a 3-0 lead.

However, with twenty minutes remaining, the home side earned a penalty when Bremer was adjudged to have handled Mariusz Stępiński's cross following a VAR consultation. Substitute Giampaolo Pazzini stepped up to convert the penalty and reduce the deficit.

Hellas pulled another goal back when Pazzini's volley was sensationally saved by Salvatore Sirigu, but Valerio Verre was on hand to score from close range.

The comeback was complete with five minutes remaining, as Ola Aina played Stępiński on side from a free kick, and the Polish striker volleyed home to deny Toro all three points.

Hellas Verona v Torino Preview

Torino will look to win three consecutive Serie A away games for the first time since February 2015 when they travel to Verona on Sunday afternoon.

The third game in that run, was incredibly enough a 3-1 victory against Hellas, with Josef Martinez, Fabio Quagliarella and Omar El Kaddouri all getting on the score sheet.

Andrea Belotti has returned to the Torino squad and is fit to feature in the game, as has Serbian midfielder Sasa Lukic.

Hellas have made an impressive start to the season since gaining promotion in the summer, and are only 2 points and 2 places below Toro, however, they have lost three of their last four games.

Torino 2-1 Fiorentina

Torino continued their impressive recent form as sealed their a third victory in their last four matches on Sunday afternoon.

With Andrea Belotti injured, Simone Zaza was named in the starting eleven, with the injured Sasa Lukic dropping out from the team who beat Genoa last weekend.

Torino took a deserved lead mid way through the first half when Simone Zaza headed home Cristian Ansaldi's excellent cross.

Fiorentina started the second half well, and twice came close to equalising through Dušan Vlahović and Federico Chiesa. The Viola were made to pay for those misses as they were hit on the counter attack, and Cristian Ansaldi scored a fine individual goal from outside the area.

Fiorentina did manage to score a consolation goal in injury time, through former Southampton defender Martín Cáceres, but Toro managed to hold on for all three points.

Torino host Fiorentina at the Stadio Grande Torino on Sunday afternoon as they look to make it three wins from their last four games.

Toro will once again be without the injured Andrea Belotti, although Simone Zaza could come into the starting eleven, with Alex Berenguer and Simone Verdi also expected to start.

Fiorentina are just a point behind Toro, but come into the game having lost their last three matches - including disappointing 1-0 defeats against newly promoted sides Hellas Verona and Lecce.

Genoa 0-1 Torino

Torino recorded successive away victories for the first time since September 2017 as they beat Genoa 1-0 on Saturday evening.

Andrea Belotti failed to recover from injury, so Walter Mazzarri lined up with a striker less formation, with Alex Berenguer playing as a 'false nine'.

Toro had a good chance to take the lead, but Cristian Ansaldi could not got his effort on target at the far post against his former team.

Genoa were much improved after the break, and were unlucky to see Kevin Agudelo's effort hit the bar after an excellent run. The home side then hit the post moments later, this time through striker Andrea Favilli.

With less than fifteen minutes remaining, Genoa were made to pay for those missed chances as Toro took the lead thanks to a magnificent header from Brazilian defender Bremer.

Simone Verdi almost scored his first since re-joining the club, but his long range effort was tipped over the bar Ionut Radu.

Substitute Simone Edera was dismissed in injury time after picking up two yellow cards, but the Granata held on for a vital victory.
