Torino v Roma Preview

Torino host Roma in their final home of the seemingly never-ending 2019/20 season on Wednesday evening.

With their Serie A status secured, Moreno Longo may look to the future for this game, so a few of Torino's younger players may get the opportunity to impress.

Roma are in excellent form and have won five of their last six matches, and are looking to confirm a 5th placed finish.

Torino surprisingly won the reverse fixture between these sides in January thanks to a brace from Andrea Belotti.

SPAL 1-1 Torino

Torino secured their Serie A status for next season as they clinched the point needed against already relegated SPAL on Sunday night.

Lecce's defeat against Bologna just before kick off meant that Toro knew a point would be enough to guarantee their survival.

Toro dominated the first half, but struggled to create clear chances, with Simone Zaza dragging his shot wide of the target.

The away side took the lead just before the hour mark in sensational fashion thanks to a left footed curling effort from Simone Verdi which gave debutant goalkeeper Demba Thiam absolutely no chance.

The Granata were then guilty of missing opportunities to double their lead, with both Simone Zaza and Verdi missing good chances. They were punished by these wasted chances as with ten minutes remaining substitute Marco D'Alessandro equalised after Soualiho Meite lost the ball on half way.

However, Moreno Longo was relatively content with the final result as he achieved his aim of keeping Toro in Serie A - although it has certainly not been convincing.

SPAL v Torino Preview

Torino travel to face SPAL on Sunday evening knowing that a victory will all but guarantee their Serie A status.

If Lecce fail to beat Bologna earlier in the day, then a point would be enough for the Granata - but Toro should feel confident given their opponents are bottom of the table and have already been relegated.

SPAL have lost their last six fixtures, and were heavily beaten 6-1 at home by Roma in their last match.

However, Torino have lost their last eight away games in the league and were surprisingly beaten 2-1 at home by SPAL back in December.

Torino 1-1 Hellas Verona

Torino moved a step closer to safety as they came from behind to earn a point against Hellas Verona on Wednesday night.

It was a poor first half performance from the Granata with the away side having the majority of the chances, with Darko Lazovic arguably wasting the best chance.

Hellas were awarded a penalty via VAR in the early stages of the second half as Nicolas Nkoulou was adjudged to have elbowed Fabio Borini in the area. Borini stepped up and sent Salvatore Sirigu the wrong way to give Hellas the lead.

Toro finally woke up after that goal, and were level less then ten minutes later when Cristian Ansaldi's excellent cross was headed home by Simone Zaza.

The Granata then had a great chance to win the game in injury time, but Andrea Belotti's header hit the bar.

Torino v Hellas Verona Preview

Torino can virtually guarantee their Serie A survival if they beat Hellas Verona at the Stadio Grande Torino on Wednesday evening.

Armando Izzo picked up an injury in the defeat at Fiorentina, whilst Sasa Lukic who started that game is now suspended.

Hellas have been one of the surprise packages this season following their promotion and are comfortably in mid table.

However, Hellas will be without key man Sofyan Amrabat who is suspended, and the visitors have not won away from home since January.

Fiorentina 2-0 Torino

Torino lost their eight successive away game on Sunday evening as they were beaten 2-0 by Fiorentina.

The Granata made a nightmare start and were behind after only two minutes as Christian Kouame wayward shot was deflected into his own not by Lyanco.

Torino had to wait until the second half for the first real chance, as Andrea Belotti came close to equalling Franco Ossola's record of scoring in eight consecutive games. However, the Toro captain saw his header from Cristian Ansaldi's rebound off the post.

The home side sealed the points with fifteen minutes remaining when Soualiho Meite lost possession on half way, and Franck Ribery assisted Patrick Cutrone who finished well.

Fiorentina v Torino Preview

Torino will travel to Florence on Sunday evening to face Fiorentina as they look for their first away victory since the restart.

Armando Izzo could come into to replace Lyanco in the starting eleven, whilst Moreno Longo may choose to rotate his squad given the quick turnaround since Thursday's victory.

Andrea Belotti, who has scored in his last seven games, could equal a club record that was set in the era of Grande Torino should he score against the Viola.

Fiorentina did Toro a huge favour in their last game by beating fellow relegation strugglers Lecce, but have not won at home since January and will be looking to rectify that statistice.

Torino 3-0 Genoa

Torino all but secured their Serie A status with a vital 3-0 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Grande Torino on Thursday evening.

Moreno Longo once again chose to line up with Simone Zaza and Andrea Belotti up front, with Simone Verdi offering support in a 3-4-1-2 formation.

The away started the better, and Salvatore Sirigu made a good save to deny Andrea Pinamonti from Iago Falque's cross.

However, just as he had done in the reverse fixture, Bremer headed Toro into the lead, this time from Simone Verdi's inswinging corner.

At the start of the second half, Toro were once again thankful for Sirigu, as the Italian international made three excellent saves in quick succession to deny Antonio Sanabria, Lasse Schöne and Andrea Pinamonti.

Toro then doubled their lead with fifteen minutes remaining, as excellent work from Andrea Belotti then allowed substitute Sasa Lukic to curl home from outside the area.

There was still time for the Torino captain to score in a seventh consecutive game, as Belotti fired a left footed rocket past Mattia Perin to seal all three points for the Granata.

Torino v Genoa Preview

Torino face another relegation six pointer when they host Genoa at the Stadio Grande Torino on Thursday evening.

Moreno Longo may revert to the Simone Verdi, Simone Zaza and Andrea Belotti trident that worked well in the victory against Brescia.

Genoa can cut the gap between the two sides to just one point with a victory, and will be buoyed by the fact their victory against SPAL at the weekend was their first since the restart.

Iago Falque, who is on loan from Torino, could feature for the away side having scored twice in his last five matches.

Inter 3-1 Torino

Torino conceded three goals at the start of the second half as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to Inter on Monday evening.

Cristian Ansaldi was surprisingly named in the front three alongside Simone Verdi and Andrea Belotti, whilst Armando Izzo returned to the team following his suspension.

Toro were gifted the lead after just seventeen minutes, when Samir Handanovic dropped a corner right to the feet of Andrea Belotti, who has now scored in six consecutive games.

The Granata had a valid appeal for a penalty turned down when Alessandro Bastoni appeared to handle in the area, whilst Ansaldi forced a save from Handanovic just before the break.

Inter began the second half like a different team, and were level within three minutes of the restart when Lautaro Martinez nodded back for Ashley Young to volley home.

Three minutes later, Inter took the lead with almost a carbon copy - this time Alexis Sanchez headed back for Diego Godin to head home.

On the hour mark, Lautaro Martinez added a third goal via the aid of a deflection from Bremer with Toro still seemingly in shock.

Andrea Belotti almost pulled a goal back for Toro, but his header hit the crossbar and the Granata lost once again.

Inter v Torino Preview

Torino will head to the San Siro to face Inter on Monday evening looking to pick up more points to secure their Serie A status.

Armando Izzo is available again following suspension, and could replace Lyanco in the back three, whilst Alex Berenguer is expected to replace the suspended Simone Zaza.

Inter have suffered a couple of disappointing results since the restart, with a defeat against Bologna in their last home game all but ending their slim hopes of a title challenge. However, a victory here would move the Nerazzurri into 2nd place.

Torino 3-1 Brescia

Torino boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation by coming from behind to beat Brescia on Wednesday evening.

Moreno Longo named an attacking line up, with Simone Zaza partnering Andrea Belotti in attack, with Simone Verdi providing support for the duo.

Toro made a bright start, and were unlucky to see Verdi's effort from just outside the area rebound off the bar.

However, they then went behind in comical fashion, as a hopeful long ball by Birkir Bjarnason rebounded off Soualiho Meite and fell perfectly into the path of Ernesto Torregrossa who finished well.

Toro seemed shell shocked at going behind, and the away side could have made it 2-0 just before half time, but Torregrossa headed wide.

The Granata needed a big second half, and they made the perfect start just three minutes into the restart. Simone Verdi's volley was heading off target before it took a deflection off Ales Mateju and creeped into Jesse Joronen's near post.

Just before the hour mark, Toro took the lead as Simone Verdi's blocked effort fell perfectly into the path of Andrea Belotti who headed home.

The Granata sealed a much needed victory in the final five minutes, as Meite's long range shot was parried by Joronen and Simone Zaza was on hand to score.

Torino v Brescia Preview

Torino face Brescia on Wednesday evening in arguably the Granata's most important fixture of the season so far.

Lecce's surprise victory against Lazio last night means that Toro are only three points ahead of the Puglian side, and just four points clear of Genoa in the bottom three.

Nicolas Nkoulou and Tomas Rincon could return to the starting eleven, whilst Simone Zaza and Cristian Ansaldi could also feature.

Brescia are also fighting against relegation but kept their slim hopes of avoiding the drop by beating Hellas Verona 2-0 in their last match.

Juventus 4-1 Torino

Torino lost their third consecutive game as they were heavily beaten 4-1 on Saturday afternoon by Juventus in the Derby Della Mole.

Moreno Longo surprisingly omitted both Nicolas Nkoulou and Tomas Rincon from the starting eleven, and it quickly looked to be a mistake.

The Granata were behind after only three minutes, as Paulo Dybala walzed his way through the Toro defence and his deflected shot beat Salvatore Sirigu.

Toro had reacted relatively well to that early set back but were then hit on the counter attack from their own corner and Juan Cuadrado doubled the home side's lead.

On the stroke of half time, Toro were awarded a penalty via VAR after Matthijs de Ligt was harshly adjudged to have handled Simone Verdi's long range shot. Andrea Belotti stepped up and converted the penalty to reduce the deficit.

The Granata were then denied an equaliser in the early stages of the 2nd half as Simone Verdi's goal was ruled out due to Andrea Belotti being offside when his effort had hit the bar.

With half an hour remaining, the game was effectively over as a contest after Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first free kick for the club.

In the dying stages of the match, substitute Koffi Djidji scored an own goal under no pressure to cap a day to forget for the Granata. 

Juventus v Torino Preview

Torino will make the short trip across the city to the Allianz Arena for a surreal Derby Della Mole behind closed doors, with the match being vital to each team.

As 9/1 underdogs, not many people are giving Torino much hope of picking up a result as they desperately attempt to move away from relegation trouble.

One slight hope for Granata fans is that they have managed to avoid defeat in two of their last three visits to the Allianz Arena, with the sides drawing 1-1 in this fixture last season.

Earlier this season, Juventus were narrow 1-0 winners in a controversial affair in which Toro were denied a penalty for an apparent hand ball by Matthijs de Ligt.

The home side will also be desperate for points as they are currently only four points clear of Lazio at the top of Serie A.

Torino 1-2 Lazio

Despite taking an early lead, Toro fell to 2-1 defeat against Lazio on Tuesday evening as their battle to avoid relegation continues.

The Granata made the perfect start as they were awarded a penalty within five minutes when Nicolas Nkoulou's volley was handled by Ciro Immobile in the area.

Andrea Belotti, who had missed his last penalty against Parma stepped up and confidently sent Thomas Strakosha the wrong way to give Toro the lead.

Ciro Immobile had two excellent chances to make amends for the concession of that penalty but on both occasions blazed high over the bar.

However, just three minutes into the second half, the former Toro striker finally grabbed his goal, with a clever finish across Salvatore Sirigu.

With less than twenty minutes remaining and Toro hoping to cling on to a valuable point, Marco Parolo's deflected effort from just outside the area gave Sirigu no chance and was enough to give Lazio all three points.
